Wednesday, January 23, through Tuesday, February 5, 2013:  Two Weeks in Menifee:

The Wednesday morning trip to the Wilderness Lakes Thousand Trails Preserve in Menifee was an easy 69 miles.  We got a perfect space on one of the canals, near the park entrance.

We expected, and got, a little rain that afternoon.  The next morning, the Wheelers and Van Dusens arrived.  They had come from Pio Pico, the Thousand Trails preserve near San Diego where we had spent some time last year.

Again, there had been some drizzle in the morning, but the afternoon was glorious.  Bill, Becky, and I played some pickleball, then all six of us settled in on our "patio" for some wine and goodies.  It's amazing how much fun we have with these people.

Friday involved a full day of drizzle, so we headed for the Cal Oaks 17 Theater in Murietta to see Silver Linings Playbook.  Normally, I don't like movies that involve characters who are either stupid or mentally disturbed, and I came very close to walking out.  But, I hung in there and ended up enjoying this one.

Saturday morning, we met Honoria Vivell and Richard Petrie for brunch at the Temecula Creek Inn.  (I had a delicious hamburger.)

The four of us then went to the Gershon Bachus winery in Temecula for a tasting and to visit with the owners, Ken and Christina Falick.  We've spent several fun hours with them at their winery in the past.  We ended up buying two bottles of their Villa Vino Blanco, a tasty combination of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Viognier.

Sunday and Monday were drizzly, so we didn't do much.  The puddles attracted the local wildlife to our patio.

A trip to the Walmart in Hemet on Monday was a highlight.  Tuesday was a glorious day, so I played a little pickleball (Becky played a lot of pickleball) and we topped it off with a trip to the Asia Seafood Buffet in Murietta (with the Wheelers and Van Dusens) for its Tuesday Half-Off For Seniors Day.  The place was mobbed with seasoned citizens---most of them attacking the mountain of crab legs on the buffet.

Wednesday, I didn't feel like playing pickleball, so when she was finished Becky "invited" me to join her on an 8-mile bike ride to the local Sport Chalet and back.  On the way, I lost momentum going up a steep path---and didn't get off my bike quickly enough to avoid landing in an area of small rocks, resulting in scraped legs.  Ah, the joys of being clumsy.

Thursday, Becky spent quite some time planning and packing for her annual "spa weekend" at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes with her buddies from the Organization of Women Executives.  Late in the afternoon, we picked up Beverly Newhouse at her home in Murietta,

and we all went to dinner at the Captain's Cabin restaurant in Temecula.  I had swordfish.  Yummy.  Thank you, Beverly.

Becky left for the weekend early Friday morning. She arranged to meet Pam Schacter for lunch at Terrenea Resort. Becky and Pam went to UCSB and were Delta Gamma sorority sisters.

Becky's OWE Spa Weekend began at a group dinner. Ramsey and I spent the rest of the day relaxing, going for walks, and reading (me, not Ramsey).  I made penne pasta for dinner.  Of course, since I made it, it was delicious. Saturday was much the same, but with a ground "steak" for dinner.  It, too, was delicious.

On Saturday, Becky joined many members of her Organization of Women Executives group to whale-watch. Terrenea Resort is located on the Palos Verdes Penninsula, where Marineland used to be.

The rooms have spectacular ocean views. Spa treatments were scheduled in the afternoon, and the day culminated with a group dinner. Becky and Honoria Vivell have been Spa Weekend roommates for many years.

Sunday, being Super Bowl Day started out with "Ebbert Fizzes" and scrambled eggs.  Both were without parallel.  Then Becky arrived home and we prepared for the game.  Snacks and adult beverages ensued.  The game turned out to be a better contest than it looked early on.

Monday and Tuesday returned to normal---with Becky playing pickleball and Ramsey and I hanging out.  We celebrated the end of our stay in Menifee by having sushi for lunch at the nearby Hana Sushi restaurant.  Then we prepared to leave on Wednesday.
